Words fail to capture the magnitude of heartache that has fallen over Connecticut due to the incomprehensible violence that came upon Sandy Hook Elementary School. The ripple effects of such destruction will be felt for generations to come. With heavy hearts, we extend our condolences to the Sandy Hook community. We also understand that school children, teachers and administrators everywhere have been affected. As adults, the right things to say or do are not always clear.
This letter from Jim Accomando, President Connecticut Parent Teacher Student Association, describes how you can help the Sandy Hook Community move positively beyond this tragedy.
Dear Connecticut PTA Officers,
We would like to thank all of our PTA leaders for their concern for our Sandy Hook PTA community and the outpouring of thoughts and prayers for the families. We are so fortunate to have such wonderful dedicated PTA members.
What can you do to help as PTA leaders?
Spread the word!
We at CT PTSA do not have access to your membership lists, your local or social media, or your school administration. Please take the script below or cut-and-paste from our website (www.ctpta.org) the information about the Snowflakes, Coins for Sandy Hook drive and the Sandy Hook Fund and forward it to all your members and PTA Partners.
Start a Snowflake and/or Sandy Hook Coin Drive.
Get your teachers, administrators and parents participating in creating unique snowflakes and/or collecting coins. This may be a great project for holiday parties, art classes or school climate discussions.
Send Snowflakes or Donations to CT PTSA.
PTA leaders should coordinate the collection of the snowflakes and/or coins. Snowflakes can be sent to our office any time before January 12, 2013. At this time, the PTA families of Newtown will be decorating their own school. We ask that coins be cashed and a check payable to the CT PTSA Sandy Hook fund be sent to the CT PTSA office by Valentine’s Day, February 14, 2013.
All other materials, school supplies, merchandise donation requests or gifts to specific families should be sent to the Newtown Public Schools at firstname.lastname@example.org
Ongoing Fundraising Efforts.
