Why don’t we support more schools to achieve Blue Ribbon status?

The Blue Ribbon Schools Program honors public and private elementary, middle and high schools that are either academically superior (reach top 10 % of their state test scores) over several years or that demonstrate dramatic gains in student achievement. A Blue Ribbon Award is considered the highest honor a school can achieve. Of the nation’s 133,000 public, charter, private, and parochial schools serving grades K-12, less than 5 % have been recognized as Blue Ribbon Schools!
